Esther Hoogendijk creates installations and sculptures in which natural processes such as growth, evaporation, and decomposition become visible. Her work changes slowly under the influence of time and environment, making it seem as if something has always been taking place.

During her residency at Zaartpark, Esther literally wants to grow something on the 49m². She is exploring the idea of a square border with tulip bulbs that will bloom during the residency. A simple gesture that raises a question: why do we as humans have such a strong need to limit and control nature and our environment?

In the coming months, we will follow how this intervention develops and how natural processes find their own way within a human-drawn framework.
