Working period
49m2 | Summer with Maud van den Beuken

49M2 | summer 2025 recidency artist maud van den beuken
From June 21st to September 21st, Maud van den Beuken (NL/DE) will be working on the 49m2 in Zaartpark, engaging in a new artistic investigation. Her practice operates at the intersection of art, ecology, and cartography, in collaboration with scientists, engineers, and policymakers. By amplifying the voices of non-human entities – plants, landscapes, water – she challenges dominant ideas of how we perceive and define geographical space.
Maud’s work takes many forms: installations, maps, audio walks, and interventions in public space, but also contributions to academic settings. Her projects have previously been shown at venues such as the United Nations Water Conference in New York, and the IJsselbiënnale. And right now at TENT.
During her summer work period at 49m2, Maud will collaborate with an ecologist to map the plant species growing on-site. In doing so, she reclaims cartography – no longer as a territorial tool, but as a means of giving voice to our fellow entities. What stories lie buried in the roots, stems, and leaves of a seemingly forgotten plot of land? And how might these stories be passed on to the artists who will engage with this space in years to come?
