About Stichting KLEIO

For 2023, Stichting KLEIO is awarding Stipendium 01 to Witte Rook. The stipend is named after Lokaal 01, the artist-run initiative that was active from 1981 to 2013 at Kloosterlaan 138. The foundation previously managed the buildings of Lokaal 01 in both Breda and Antwerp. Upon ceasing its activities, the properties were sold. The proceeds from these sales were used to establish the fund that awards Stipendium 01.

About Anat Spiegel

Anat Spiegel (IL/NL/USA) is a composer and vocalist specialising in cross-platform performance. Her work stems from a vocal perspective and explores the endless expressive possibilities of the human voice. Spiegel’s compositions combine elements of jazz, theatre and contemporary classical music, engaging with the cultural meaning of song and the connection between written language and its sonic expression. She is also a member of the composers’ collective Monotak and the spoken word duo Noon and Ain, and was awarded the McKnight Composers Fellowship in 2020.

About De Link

De Link is a concert organisation for newly composed music based in Tilburg, run by composers, musicians and enthusiasts. For over 30 years, they have demonstrated that the work of contemporary composers forms a vibrant, living practice. Each performance is unique and often takes place in unconventional settings. During the exhibition Can you live my space?, Anat Spiegel “inhabits” the space with the question of whether the presence of a performer changes how we view an artwork—and conversely, how the visual affects the musical. In its Reflex programme, De Link presents short concert performances: spatial interventions in and around artworks, in collaboration with PARK Tilburg, Witte Rook Breda, Hilvaria Studio’s Hilvarenbeek, and Expo Cacaofabriek Helmond.

Can You Live My Space? is a group exhibition taking place simultaneously in three locations: De StadsGalerij, Galerie Ecker in Breda, and a large virtual project space on the common.garden platform. Curated by Cristina Materassi, the exhibition features works by: Anna Püschel (Gent), Bruno De Marco (Berlin), Emmie Liebregts (Breda), Fenna Koot (Breda), Hussel Zhu (Rotterdam), Jui-Tsz Shiu (Taipei), Karina Beumer (Antwerpen), Loran van de Wier (Tilburg), Margot Zweers (Ospel), Simon Whetham (Bristol), Ying Liu (Rotterdam), Yuk Kan Yeung (Breda).
