De Vrijstaat | Open Call (longlist) Workperiod 49m², Zaartpark Breda
How would your practice develop if you were given three months of “freedom” in the middle of a park that is constantly changing?
Following on from the Pitch your plan meeting on 11 September, Witte Rook is inviting artists to submit a plan digitally (if they haven’t already done so) — so if you couldn’t attend on that day, you can now share your idea digitally! The selected plans will be included on the longlist for future seasons (2027/2028).
What is a working period on the 49m²?
At the 49m² in Zaartpark, artists are given the space to conduct three months of research according to the regular programme, which you can read more about here. In short, you are given a piece of “free space” where you can deepen or broaden your practice through artistic research and/or experiments in public space.
We do not ask you to develop a new work. What we do ask is that at the end of your working period, you share an observation in a form that suits your practice. This could be a series of photographs, a performance, a text or something else entirely. You decide the form.
During the working period, Witte Rook will provide guidance where necessary, and an author will write an article about your working process, which will later be published and shared together with your observation.
What is in the plan?
Send a concise proposal of no more than one A4 page, including:
- a brief explanation of how you would like to organise the work period and why;
- your motivation and how it relates to your practice;
- your contact details;
- your preferred season (winter, spring, summer or autumn).
Deadline
Submit your plan before 23 October 2025 via manuela@witterook.nl.
