Lecture: Las Lanzas by Iratxe Jaio & Klaas van Gorkum
On Friday afternoon, October 4, the artist duo will give a lecture at the Stedelijk Museum Breda, sharing their exploration of the various copies of the famous painting Las Lanzas found in Breda.
How does the surrounding environment influence the perception of this artwork? In City Hall, the painting serves as a silent witness to countless weddings. At Breda Castle, it watches sternly over young cadets waiting in the lounge. And in the Stedelijk Museum Breda, the version by painter Kees Maks has been given a prominent place in the exhibition on the Orange-Nassau family.
Monique Rakhorst, curator of old art at the museum, will be present to provide a historical perspective on the painting.
The Breda Copies of Las Lanzas
During the Breda Month of History, artists Iratxe Jaio and Klaas van Gorkum will present their research on the copies of The Surrender of Breda by Diego Velázquez. This lecture, part of their residency project Las Lanzas, is organized in collaboration with the Stedelijk Museum Breda as part of the Breda Month of History.
