Winter Garden | Kick-off 2026 & Anoek Mensink

As the parks come to a standstill and the ground prepares itself for a new season, we invite you to Winter Garden: a moment to look back together, dream ahead, and embrace winter as fertile ground for what is yet to come.

This afternoon we will present our programme for 2026 and celebrate the finissage of Anoek Mensink, who has been our artist-in-residence this autumn on the 49m² in the Zaartpark.

To conclude, Anoek will present her 10-inch EP Fonie (Greek for “sound”), where collected audio recordings of the site converge into a series of compositions. Together with writer Vincent Koevoets, she will reflect on the creation and process behind this distinctive work.

During her residency, Anoek explored the audible and inaudible layers of sound present in this remarkable site. Using specialised recording equipment, she listened to what usually takes place beyond our reach: vibrations in the soil, rhythms across the canopy, the movements of insects, the murmur of rain and wind.

How does the inside of a tree sound? What traces do insects leave when you listen alongside them? What might the ground beneath our feet tell us if we slow down?

Fonie opens up an experience of the 49m² that extends beyond our own perception: a world in which life speaks to itself — and we are allowed, briefly, to listen in.

We invite everyone to pause with us — to reflect on what has emerged, and to sense what may surface in the year ahead. Join us on Friday afternoon, January 9th at 16:00, for a warm drink, something sweet, and the premiere of the 10’’ EP Fonie.
