Do you have the ambition to focus your practice on writing about art? Do you already have a writing practice that you want to deepen further? Is the combination of text and visual art self-evident to you, and are you looking to connect with like-minded professionals? Then taking part in Writers Block might be something for you!

What is Writers Block?

Writers Block is a programme developed by Witte Rook to foster and expand the writing talent of art professionals within the domain of visual art. Central to the programme are knowledge exchange and collaboration, which take shape through sessions, lectures, expert meetings, and workshops. For the first 2025 edition, art historian Manon van Beek has curated a programme that delves into various styles of writing about art, with a particular focus on editing and commenting on texts.

Who is it for?

This programme is for art professionals who write – curators, artists, art historians, theorists, philosophers, researchers, and critics – and who wish to deepen and position their writing practice more clearly. You do not need to be a seasoned author, but some experience with writing is required.

What do we offer?

We have space for a maximum of 10 participants. Thanks to support from the Municipality of Breda, participation in this pilot edition is free of charge. We’ll offer a behind-the-scenes look at our publication projects, an inspiring programme, and the opportunity to publish your texts on our platform.

The programme will take place both on-site at Witte Rook in the StadsGalerij Breda and partially online.
