Since 2017, we have been collaborating with AiR van Gogh in Zundert, North Brabant. At the end of each work period, all participants in the AiR van Gogh program engage in a conversation about their discoveries and experiences as an Artist in Residence in Zundert.

The author’s visit itself is already of great value; it is often the first moment of reflection during the residency, creating an interaction between the artist and the writer, who naturally assumes the role of observer. In describing the conversation and the artistic process, the artist’s voice remains central. This means that the tone of the article is shaped by the personality of the artist, and in some cases, the encounter even influences its form. The sincere and sensitive textual representation often becomes part of a printed publication, which the artist may choose to publish independently.

The collection of all published interviews on our online platform provides a diverse perspective on artists’ experiences with the residency space, with Van Gogh, with their artistic experiment, and offers insight into their position within the art world.

With the Van Gogh Artist-in-Residence program, the Van GoghHuis in Zundert seeks to follow Vincent’s dream of “the studio of the South.” Artists from both the Netherlands and abroad, ranging from emerging talents to established names, are invited to work in Zundert for a period of time—“in Van Gogh’s footsteps”—drawing inspiration from his work, his ideas, and the place where he grew up.
