On Sunday 28 June, the performance of ‘Den Kurá Wilhelmina’ (In Wilhelmina’s Garden) will take place in Breda’s Wilhelminapark. You are warmly welcome from 2 pm. We will meet by the petrol station opposite Café Parkzicht, after which we will immerse you in the culture of Curaçao through music and dance, where traditions blend into powerful contemporary expressions.

This musical and theatrical journey through Curaçao’s past was created in collaboration with the Curaçaoan community during March, April and June 2026. During the community meetings at Dansnest, a narrative emerged centred on memories of Curaçao; how we can share them and weave them into a new collective story. There was room for exchange, new influences and exploring how culture and tradition evolve alongside life itself, even when that life is on the other side of the ocean.

Den Kurá Wilhelmina

The name is written in Papiamentu and means ‘In Wilhelmina’s Garden’. Parks can also be seen as public gardens, where everyone is welcome to enjoy themselves. Tilburg’s Wilhelmina Park is one of the many parks established in the 19th and early 20th centuries, located not only in the Netherlands but also on Java, in Suriname and in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. These parks form part of our colonial history, but they are also meeting places for the present where we can look forward to a shared future. At Den Kurá Wilhelmina, we celebrate the richness of Curaçaoan culture within Breda’s community.
