Summer PERIOD 2024 WITH Qiaochu Guo AS GUEST ARTIST IN THE ZAARTPARK, BREDA
June 20th is the official start of the summer season and this means that a new working period starts for a new guest artist at the 49m2 in the Zaartpark in Breda.
Artist Qiaochu Guo (they/them) was born in Jingmen, China, and recently moved to the Netherlands. Hen is interested in how the established social structure influences the experiences of the body. Themes such as; alienation, abandonment, exhaustion and illness lead their works to play with the autonomous transforming potential body of hacking, defeating, disrupting and repairing as strategies.
Their work is not limited to a certain medium, it wants to be conveyed in a sticky, thick, hazy, penetrating way. Hen has shown work in the Van Abbe Museum, Het Nieuwe Instituut, Framer Framed, Mediamatic, Garage Rotterdam and performed in Flam #9, Worm, De Singel and Veem.
Qiaochu Guo will use the working period (June 20 to September 21, 2024) to reflect on the politics of this piece of land, and explore the potential intertwinement that emerges from the body of the land and its interregional background.
