49m2, year 8, winter 2024 | Bo Emmens
WINTER PERIOD 2024 WITH Bo Emmens AS GUEST ARTIST IN THE ZAARTPARK, BREDA
From December 22, 2023 to March 19, 2024, Bo Emmens will be the guest artist of the 49 square meters in the Zaartpark in Breda. As a romantic landscape surveyor, draftsman and performative researcher/storyteller, Bo Emmens (Amsterdam, 2001) travels Dutch cities to places to report on the insignificant. Searching for – and relating to – he questions and sings about places with an unclear or complex spirit.
Emmens graduated cum laude in 2023 in the direction of autonomous visual arts at St. Joost School of Art & Design in Breda. His final work consisted of a series of landscape drawings and cityscapes (oil pastel, pencil, marker and other mixed media on paper), set up in an installation of modest wooden posts, flanked by a few small photo frames in which Emmens himself could be seen as a confused-looking artist.
For the 49m2 project, Emmens returns to his fascination with the appearance of scientific research: From the urge to measure everything that is loose and fixed, from blades of grass to love, until there is nothing left to measure and the entire existence can be understood.
