The Digital Explorers project is based on the idea that digital art is not a separate movement but an undeniable part of art history, bringing with it new insights and methods.

From September 1 to October 31, Gabey Tjon a Tham will undertake her digital residency at Witte Rook. During September and October, she will work on the virtual platform common.garden, an initiative by artist Constant Dullaart.

As an installation artist, Gabey Tjon a Tham explores the complex systems that exist both in nature and in our digital world, examining how they influence one another through continuously evolving sequences. Her works take the form of audiovisual installations that balance between virtual and analog realities, positioning her practice at the intersection of visual art, science, and technology.

This residency allows her to further develop her ongoing research into digital nature. She sees potential in working with the concept of ‘specific space’ within the digital domain as a way to reflect on the physical world. She experiments with a digital ecosystem to create spaces of connection between human, natural, and artificial entities. To achieve this, she develops prototypes that manifest as audiovisual virtual worlds and textual reflections.
